NTI and HTP gas boilers recalled after cracked part blows off covers; installers asked to track down units

Ariston recalls about 4,726 NTI and HTP gas boilers in the U.S. over a cracking condensate dish. Here's how installers find units and get free repair kits.

If you've installed a gray NTI or black HTP condensing boiler in the last few years, check your job files. Ariston, the company that used to be NTI Boilers, is recalling about 4,726 NTI FTVN and TFTN and HTP EFTU gas boilers in the U.S. because a part inside can crack and set up a gas buildup that blows the front cover off the unit (via U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission). Another 2,261 units are covered in Canada.

The trouble starts with the condensate dish. According to CPSC recall 27-051, posted Oct. 29, the dish can crack during a delayed ignition. That lets unburned gas collect inside the sealed cabinet, and if it lights off, the front cover can come loose suddenly. CPSC lists fire, carbon monoxide poisoning and impact as the hazards, with a risk of serious injury or death.

Ariston has received 34 reports of broken condensate dishes, and three of those involved the cover detaching, CPSC says. In one case, the technician working on the boiler suffered a broken jaw. That should get every service tech's attention.

The boilers went out through independent heating and plumbing contractors and wholesale distributors nationwide from May 2021 through July 2026, at roughly $3,200 to $7,700 each, according to CPSC. Health Canada's companion notice gives a Canadian sales window of May 2021 to August 2025 and lists two incident reports and one injury in Canada as of Oct. 16. NTI's own recall page says the affected FTVN and TFTN units were built between June 14, 2021, and March 20, 2023.

The recalled models are the NTI FTVN150, FTVN150C, FTVN199, FTVN199C, TFTN150 and TFTN199, plus the HTP EFTU-150WBN, EFTU-150WCN, EFTU-199WBN and EFTU-199WCN. Only specific serial ranges are included, and most models have two. The serial number is on the rating plate on the side of the cabinet. Match it against the full lists on the CPSC and Health Canada notices or the PDF on NTI's site. Units outside the listed ranges aren't part of the recall. One caution: the published range for the EFTU-199WCN ends on a number that appears lower than where it starts, which Health Canada's page flags as a possible typo, so call Ariston to confirm any unit of that model.

Owners are told to stop using the boilers right away and get a free repair from a certified technician. NTI's notice adds that owners shouldn't clear any lockouts on their own. If a boiler has to keep running until it's fixed, CPSC says the home needs working smoke and CO alarms, and NTI's notice specifically calls for coverage in the boiler room.

NTI's recall page spells out what installing contractors are expected to do. Pull the no-charge repair kit from your local wholesaler, or go to Ariston directly if you can't get one. The kit part numbers are 6501575600 for FTVN units and 6501575700 for TFTN units, and each kit includes a new controller with revised software plus written instructions. The repair calls for installing the kit, visually checking the condensate dish (Ariston will arrange a free replacement if it's damaged), running a combustion test with a gas analyzer to confirm settings, and putting a label somewhere visible, like the front cover or a cross brace, showing the unit has been repaired.

Ariston says it will reimburse eligible labor, and a reimbursement form is posted on the NTI page. To request a kit, email the serial number along with the repairing contractor's name, phone number and address to VCexchanger@ariston.com. Ariston estimates about three days to ship. Sellers and installers are also asked to send the recall notice to customers running these boilers, at least twice, two weeks apart. Wholesalers should check stock, quarantine affected units and email their inventory list to Ariston.

Ariston's recall line is 800-688-2575, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday. Details are also at ntiboilers.com/safety-recalls and htproducts.com/safety-notice.html.

Why it matters for Contractors

For a small plumbing or HVAC shop, this one lands squarely on you. These boilers were sold through contractors, so the homeowner may not know a brand or model number, but your invoices and permit records probably do. Pull every NTI and HTP install since spring 2021, check serials against the lists, and call those customers before they find out some other way.

There's also a jobsite safety piece. A technician got hurt when a cover let go, so anyone opening one of these cabinets should treat a unit with a history of delayed ignition or lockouts with real caution until the kit is in. Builders and remodelers who subbed out mechanical work on homes from that period should ask their HVAC partners whether any of these boilers went in, and they'll want to keep any labor reimbursement paperwork for the repair.
