Pennsylvania Construction News

Pennsylvania's construction market reflects both its industrial history and newer growth. Philadelphia and Pittsburgh lead with hospital, university, life sciences and residential projects, along with the reuse of old mills, factories and warehouses. The Lehigh Valley and the Harrisburg area have become major distribution hubs along the state's interstates, while natural gas development in the Marcellus Shale brings pipeline, processing and support work to the north and west. An aging network of bridges, roads and water systems keeps public works contracts flowing. Rowhouses, older housing stock and freeze-thaw winters make renovation a big part of the market, and most building work statewide is governed by the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code.
