Steel Studs, Corner Bead and Ceiling Grid Prices Go Up in November

ClarkDietrich, AMICO and Telling raise steel framing prices Nov. 1-2, CertainTeed corner bead jumps up to 20%, and Armstrong grid rises 12%. What to know.

Drywall and framing contractors are looking at another round of price increases on the stuff that goes into every interior job. Steel stud and track makers, corner bead producers and ceiling companies have all sent letters setting new prices for early to mid November, according to the manufacturer pricing index kept by ABC Supply Interiors (via ABC Supply Interiors).

Most of these letters went out in the first two weeks of October. The new prices start showing up on invoices within days.

Start with steel framing. ClarkDietrich told customers in an Oct. 2 letter that it's raising prices nationwide on all its steel-based products effective Nov. 1. The company blamed steel mills, which it said have raised prices and added surcharges for November shipments, along with steel and energy costs that kept climbing through 2026. It didn't publish a percentage; new price lists were promised before the effective date. Prices are set when material ships, and existing quotes fall under the company's job quote policy.

ClarkDietrich has company. AMICO says all its steel building products shipped on or after Nov. 1 will cost more, citing steady increases in domestic steel. Telling Industries is raising most of its metal framing products Nov. 2 because of steel, transportation and fuel costs. MarinoWare's notice covers all steel products starting Nov. 2, and Cemco also has a Nov. 2 adjustment on the ABC list. None of the steel framing notices we reviewed put a single number on the increase, so you'll have to get it from your supplier's updated price sheets.

Worth noting: ClarkDietrich and MarinoWare also had adjustments on Oct. 1, according to the same index. That's two moves in about a month.

Corner bead is the sharpest jump. CertainTeed is raising its Corners line, which includes NO-COAT, LEVELLINE and AQUABEAD, by up to 20% on shipments dated Nov. 2 or later. The company pointed to raw materials, energy and transportation, and said more increases are possible next year. Trim-Tex follows on Nov. 15 with 10% on its interior and exterior products and 5% on its code-compliant line, for shipments on or after that date. Trim-Tex says valid job quotes and programs will be honored through their stated expiration dates.

Ceiling work isn't spared. Armstrong is raising its steel and aluminum suspension systems, trims and accessories 12% on Nov. 2, and its bulletin recommends adding another 10% to quotes issued on or after Feb. 1, 2027, and 10% more for quotes issued on or after Aug. 2, 2027. Armstrong also warned some items may have longer lead times. USG Ceilings has increases effective Nov. 9 of up to 8% on ceiling panels, up to 10% on suspension systems and up to 5% on certain specialty metal products. USG is also adding a fuel surcharge on prepaid shipments of $150, $250 or $500, depending on order weight.

Why it matters for Contractors

Most of the letters we could read price by ship date, not when you place the order. If studs, track or bead for a signed job won't leave the yard until after the first week of November, plan on paying the new price unless your supplier tells you otherwise in writing.

If you're a small drywall or remodeling crew, call your supplier this week. Ask for the updated price sheets, ask whether any of your open quotes qualify under the manufacturer's quote policy, and consider pulling material forward on jobs that are ready to go. On jobs you're bidding now, price the framing and bead at November numbers.

If you do commercial tenant finish or ceiling work, Armstrong's guidance is a heads-up that grid pricing could keep climbing into 2027. Keep quote expiration dates short and spell out material escalation in your contracts.
