Lithonia recalls about 11,500 RSX area lights because tilt-arm mounts can break

Lithonia is recalling about 11,532 RSX outdoor LED lights on tilt-arm mounts that can break and drop the fixture. Here is what installers should check.

Lithonia Lighting is recalling about 11,532 of its RSX outdoor LED luminaires that were sold with adjustable tilt-arm mounts, because the knuckle on the arm can fail and let the fixture drop (via the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission). The recall notice was posted Oct. 22.

If you're an electrician or a contractor who has put up commercial site lighting over the last several years, this one is worth a look. CPSC describes the RSX line as commercial outdoor lighting, and the recalled mounts hang the fixtures on square poles, round poles and building walls, the kind of setup you'd see over a parking lot or along the side of a building.

The recall covers four mounting options, identified by the codes in the catalog number. AASP is the square pole mount, AARP is the round pole mount, AAWB is the wall bracket and AAWSC is the wall bracket with a conduit box. CPSC says each arm lets the light be aimed anywhere from 0 to 90 degrees above horizontal.

Lithonia has received 13 reports of the mounts breaking, and in four of those cases the fixture fell, CPSC says. Nobody has been reported hurt. The agency still rates it as an impact hazard that can cause serious injury, since these lights hang over places where people walk and park.

The units were sold through commercial electrical distributors across the country, including Turtle & Hughes and Consolidated Electrical Distributors, from August 2019 through August 2026. Prices ran from about $400 to $2,200. They were made in the United States and Mexico.

Not every RSX on a tilt arm is part of the recall. CPSC lists two manufacturing windows, August 2019 to July 2020 and August 2024 to April 2026. Acuity Brands, Lithonia's parent company, gives slightly different dates on its own recall page: Aug. 19, 2019 through July 31, 2020, and Aug. 1, 2024 through June 16, 2026. Acuity also says the recall reaches the RSXF floodlight version, and that mounts used on the smaller RSX1 and RSXF1 models are excluded from the second window.

Because the two notices don't line up exactly, the safest move is to call Lithonia and have them confirm whether a specific unit is covered. CPSC tells owners to do the same.

The fix is free. Lithonia says it will send a qualified professional to swap the recalled mount for a new complete adjustable arm assembly. In the meantime, CPSC says people should keep clear of the area directly under the fixture. The notice does not tell owners to take the lights down.

Lithonia's recall line is 855-307-2454, open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern, Monday through Friday. The recall details are also posted on Acuity's recalls page, which includes a claim link that routes to a distributor replacement order form. There's no joint recall listed with Health Canada, and Acuity's page carries no separate Canadian notice.

Why it matters for Contractors

Most of these fixtures were sold through commercial electrical distributors, so the building owner may have no idea what brand of mount is holding up the lights. If you installed RSX fixtures on tilt arms between 2019 and 2026, pull your job records and look for the AASP, AARP, AAWB or AAWSC codes on the submittals or packing lists. A quick call to those customers is good service and could keep a fixture from coming down on a car or a person.

If you've got an RSX job on the board right now, check with your distributor before you hang anything from a tilt-arm mount out of older stock. And if you see a fixture that's sagging or cocked at an odd angle on a service call, treat it as a falling-object risk until Lithonia confirms it's not a recalled unit.
